In this issue, we would like to recognize Shani Wyllie, the principal of Attucks Middle School in Houston ISD and a 2015 graduate of HCDE Educator Certification and Advancement Principal Academy. As a dynamic, transformational leader laser-focused on her students and community, Ms. Wyllie was recently awarded the Excellence in Leadership Award by Houston ISD’s superintendent Dr. Grenita Latham. We caught up with Shani to get her insights on leadership.

The Effective Schools Framework
HCDE’s Education and Enrichment team held their strategic planning retreat this past October 2020. Prior to and during the retreat, the team identified and reviewed targeted evidence-based research and proven strategies to drive their planning. This framework was one of the tools the team used as a protocol to influence practice.

10 Traits of Successful School Leaders
Since 1964, HCDE has supported educational leaders within and beyond the 25 school districts in Harrs County, Texas by providing professional development through its now Teaching and Learning Center. With HCDE support, the Teaching and Learning Center brings nationally recognized speakers to our educational communities. This is accomplished through conferences, institutes, workshops and a speaker series.
