I shared this picture book with my 5th graders for multiple reasons: to understand one of the Black women that fought for change in politics and paved the way for Kamala Harris and many others, to see how one person’s life can inspire change and action among people of all races and backgrounds, and to continue to think about how we will make a difference in the world around us.
